Hundreds of opponents of same-sex marriages were detained in Paris

About 300 opponents of same-sex marriages were arrested on Sunday in Paris after the mass demonstration that developed into clashes, reports AFP.
Mass action against a law allowing same-sex couples to marry and adopt children, was held in Paris on Sunday. Supporters of the movement "Demonstration for All", accompanied by volunteers and police, marched towards the esplanade of the Invalides, where the meeting took place. According to police, the rally was attended by 150 thousand people, according to organizers - more than 1 million, RIA "Novosti".
At the conclusion of the meeting a group of 200-300 people began to provoke the police - young people chanted offensive slogans, stones and bottles flew in the direction of special forces, as well as in the direction of journalists covering the action. To pacify the bullies and displace people from the area, police used tear gas.
According to the agency, 293 people were arrested, 231 of them into custody. Police warned citizens on the eve of its intention to make a far-right youth unrest.
Law allowing same-sex couples to marry and adopt children, May 18 was signed by the President of France Francois Hollande and published in the official gazette of the country. France became the ninth European country is permitted same-sex marriages. The first gay wedding will take place on May 29 in Montpellier in the south of the country.
