Santiago, Chile being battered by rains

Heavy rains and winds have hit the Chilean capital Santiago causing thousands of homes to be left without electricity. Heavy flooding has been reported and the city’s schools have canceled classes.
The National Emergency Management Agency said Monday that the adverse weather conditions will persist in the near future.
The Minister of Education of Chile, Carolina Schmidt, declared that the decision was made to cancel classes in all of the schools of the capital and its suburbs.
The population of the city is being advised not to leave their homes.
