German doctors removed 10 cm pencil from patients head

German doctors removed a 10cm pencil from a patient's head. The man was a native of Afghanistan and lived with it inside his head for several years.
The patient himself apparently did not know that he had the pencil in his head.
The case is so unusual and defies common sense that it was told by one of the German surgeons taking part at the ongoing annual conference of the German Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Essen.
In 24-year-old patient had diminished vision in his right eye, and for many years had had headaches and a runny nose, the causes of which he could not explain.
With the help of CT surgeons from the hospital of Aachen the pencil was found in the maxillary sinus and had moved far down his throat.
The young man remembered that one day at school he had fallen and then started bleeding heavily through his nose.
Apparently, it was at that moment that the pencil entered his head through his nasal cavity.
