Today is World Digestive Health Day

The World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO) has deemed May 29 to be World Digestive Health Day to build awareness around gastrointestinal (GI) issues.
According to a message from the World Digestive Health Day (WDHD) Campaign Directors, Eamonn Quigley, MD, and Richard Hunt, MD, “GI symptoms such as heartburn, indigestion/dyspepsia, bloating and constipation are common in the community. WDHD will seek to encourage dialogue on these GI issues and to facilitate interaction between the sufferer and health care providers involved in the management of these and related symptoms, and in doing so, addressing such issues as when dietary or life style changes should be instituted, when symptomatic therapy is appropriate and when referral to a hospital or clinic for further assessment is desirable.”
In support of this global effort, the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) created a new resource of common GI symptoms. In addition to assistance with symptoms, the resource also featured the latest research from The American Journal of Gastroenterology, as well as podcast, videos and other resources. The resource also features a description of common GI procedures.
