The Telegraph. Miss Universe Canada crown goes to wrong winner after scoring typo

A typo has led to that victory in Canada’s Miss Universe competition was given to a wrong contestant. 24 hours after she had been named the winner, 26 year-old Denise Garrido was stripped of her sash and crown.
The competition’s organizers have already admitted there was a counting error, and that Ms Garrido was wrongly awarded the crown. It turned out that the blame was on an inexperienced employee who made a typo when transferring the judges' handwritten scores into a computer program.
"I was shocked. I'd achieved my dream and suddenly after a day of it sinking in it was suddenly taken away from me," Ms Garrido said.
According to the organizers, the crown will be soon handed over to Riza Santos, also 26, of Calgary, who will be representing Canada at the Miss Universe final in December. Ms Garrido was finally ranked third, they added.
