Yerevan Municipality has announced an open architectural competition for the conceptual design of the reconstruction of the Republic Square in the center of the capital, according to the city administration.

"According to the results of the competition the best project proposals aimed at improving the most important architectural complex of Yerevan and its adaptation to modern processes of urban development will be chosen," the report says.

The proposals should take into account the fact that the area has become a congested transport hub, with all the negative consequences. In addition, as a result of development on the area adjacent territories violated its scale and dominance. The functional significance of some of the buildings has been changed, North Avenue has been built.

The competition is open for architects, creative workshops and groups of architects and members of related professions.

Applications will be accepted from May 29 to August 29.
