Pentagon says Guantanamo detainee count remains 166

No detainees from the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay were recently released or transferred, a Pentagon spokesman said Saturday, denying reports that two suspects had been handed over to Mauritania.

Lieutenant Colonel Samuel House said "there was no release," and "we still have 166 detainees."

Activists and security officials in the capital Nouakchott had earlier said two Mauritanian detainees had been returned to the city on Friday night.
