Henrik Hovhannisyan was born on June 3,1936in Gyumri.

Main avtivities are history of Armenian ancient and mediaeval theatre, history of 19th century eastern and western Armenian theatres, theory of stage speech, nature of dramatic art.

He is a honoured worker of art of the RA (2003), awarded with the diploma of NAS RA (2006)

Now Henrik Hovhannisyan is the head of the department of Institute of Arts of NAS RA (since 2004)

Henrik Hovhannisyan graduated from Yerevan Institute of Fine and Dramatic Arts (1958). Ph. D. in art studies(1980), prof. (2003), corr. member of NAS RA (2006).

He was research officer of the Institute of Arts of NAS RA (1965-1972), senior research officer (1972-1987), leading research officer (1987-1991), chief research officer (since 1991). Chairman of Specialized Board for awarding academic degrees (since 1995). Chairman of TV and radio state committee of RA (1990-1991).
