Gonzalo Higuaín: “I want a change of scenery, the decision has been taken”
Sport
Gonzalo Higuaín spoke in the mixed zone of the Santiago Bernabéu last night and confirmed the open secret that he will not be a Real Madrid player next season. “I feel this period of my life is over, I want a change of scenery. It’s been seven incredible years, tough, happy. I’ve thought the decision through. It’s difficult, it wasn’t easy, but I think I want to go to another club, for new challenges. My family have suffered too. The decision has been taken, hopefully the club and I can get things sorted out right”.
“I hope the club do the right thing. I’m not going because the fans whistled me. In seven years it’s the first time I’ve heard that [whistles from the Bernabéu against Dortmund]. There are other reasons, but I’m not going to talk about them. I’ve been here for seven years, and there is a reason. I’ve equalled the legendary Juanito’s record as the 14th top scorer in the history of Madrid. The decision has been taken. Last year things were happening, with meetings and such like, but the gaffer and my teammates convinced me to stay. Now it’s been seven years and the decision has been agreed. I’ve had to work for everything, I’ve always worked myself to death. I’m happy with my statistics, I had the fans singing my name. I’ve not decided where I’ll go. The club knows that I want to leave. Hopefully everything turns out well”.
