BBC - The British Queen is celebrating the 60-year jubilee of her being announced head of state. Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was announced Queen of Great Britain on February 6, 1952, the very same day her father King George VI died. Born April 21, 1926, the future queen studied economics, jurisprudence and constitutional law. During WWII she became qualified as a truck driver and served in Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service till the end of the war.
