The paper says it has learned from sources that by February 27, President Serzh Sargsyan is expected to sign a decree on appointing a date for parliamentary polls.
The National Assembly election can be held between April 28 and May 8, the paper says, adding that there are two Sundays in that period - April 28 and May 6.
The author of the report notes that the 2007 parliamentary election was held on May 12, which was Saturday.
“The parliamentary polls may be scheduled for either a Saturday or a Sunday because the law does not mandate that they be held on a non-working day, as is the case with presidential elections. Anyway, the nomination of the candidates representing majority constituencies and proportional ballots should start on March 12 and last ten days. This is probably the reason that the ruling Republican Party’s congress, originally scheduled for March 17, was postponed until March 18. Otherwise the Republicans might face time pressure in terms of proposing candidates,” says the paper.
