UN denies that Ukraine’s security chief asked UN to monitor situation in Crimea

United Nations spokesperson Martin Nesirky has refuted allegations that Ukraine’s security service chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko asked the United Nations to monitor the situation in Crimea.

On Wednesday, Ukraine’s security service said on its website that at a meeting with United Nations Special Envoy Robert Serry, Nalyvaichenko asked him to “use all UN’s possibilities to monitor the security situation in Crimea 24/7”.

According to Nesirky, this information had nothing to do with the real state of things. Ukraine’s security service was strongly recommended to remove what it had posted on its site, which it ultimately did, he noted.

At the same time, he confirmed that Robert Serry had met with Nalyvaichenko on Wednesday.
