Gwyneth Paltrow's 'obsession with Kabbalah and VERY strict diet caused huge tension with non-believer Chris Martin… who wanted children to have treats'

Coldplay singer Chris Martin struggled to deal with various aspects of Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle which is believed to have led to their split.

It’s thought Chris, who was pictured lavishing his children with attention and even buying them ice cream on numerous of occasions, found the actress' diet and rules both constricting and hard on the children.

A source told The Sun's Dan Wootton: ‘He wanted the family to watch DVDs and TV – and also wanted them to eat treats every now and then.’

Further issues arouse between the pair due to Gwyneth’s Kaballah beliefs, which she turned to to help deal with personal issues in her life.

The source continued: ‘Chris felt he was starting to lose the woman he fell in love with.’

A couple of years ago Gwyneth, 41, shocked when she revealed her very strict parenting rules.

She admitted that she only allowed the couple’s two children - daughter Apple, and son Moses to watch television in French or Spanish instead of their native English.

The Iron Man star, who is known for her strict approach to diet and exercise, did however say that  she 'loosens up the reigns' when the family go out.

She revealed in one of her Goop posts that she tried to start her kids off on the right foot nutrition-wise, 'but the lure of Oreos and cotton candy outweighed the lure of carrots and hummus.'

'And that's all part of childhood and I love Oreos too, so I completely understand,' she said.

The busy mother said that while she makes sure to feed her children nutritious meals at home, she allows them the occasional treat.

'They love a brown rice stir-fry but they also love their "Coke of the week"', said the blonde.

'My daughter gravitates toward fresh fruit and raw nuts but will inhale a bag of hot Cheetos at the airport. It's really all about balance.'

However it was perhaps not enough for Chris who was spotted taking his children, who were always pictured having fun with him, getting ice cream while out and about in LA last year which raised eyebrows. 

It is unclear now whether Chris, who is reported to have moved out of the family's £7 million home in London's Belsize Park last year, will avoid the macrobiotic diet entirely. 

The Sun reports that the Coldplay singer began living with his bandmate Guy Berryman's small flat in Hampstead Heath when he moved out of the family home.

An insider claimed: 'Chris was really struggling with Gwyneth. He was doing everything he could to patch things up. But he felt he had no choice but to move out. Guy offered him a place to stay.'

The couple, who married in a secret ceremony in Mexico in 2003, announced their split on Tuesday with an emotional, yet somewhat bizarrely entitled, statement called 'Conscious Uncoupling'. 

They wrote: 'We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.

'We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. 

'We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.'
