New federal university to be created in Crimea

A new federal university on the basis of the Vernadsky Taurida University in Crimea is to be set up, said Dmitry Livanov, Russian Education and Science Minister, in an interview to the Izvestia daily.

“We will try to make this project open for all higher educational establishments of Sevastopol and Crimea, so that any Crimean university could join the newly created federal university,” Livanov said.

He did not rule out that some research organisations operating in Crimea today would also be able to join the new federal university. “However, this will be done only on the condition that they are ready for that and want it,” the minister added.
