Sochi Olympic designers to create Russian Far East ski resorts

French specialists who designed the Winter Olympic sites for Russia's Black Sea resort city of Sochi will advise in projects to create mountain ski resorts on Russian far eastern Kamchatka peninsula.

Sochi 2014 Olympic Facilities The appointment was announced after talks between officials of French association Cluster Montagne and the Kamchatka Territorial Development Corporation, territorial sport chief Andrei Ivanov told ITAR-TASS on Tuesday.

“French specialists have made an offer for further co-operation. They are prepared to act as consultants in developing different projects to build modern mountain ski centers,” Ivanov said.
Within a week-long regional tour, experts have visited several of the largest-operating mountain ski centers on the peninsula, including Edelweiss in the regional capital city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Moroznaya Mount in the territory's Yelizovo district. Construction of a chairlift at mountain ski base Edelweiss in the regional centre should start in 2015.
Several mountain ski tourist bases are being re-equipped in Kamchatka. Before the end of 2014, a first chairlift on the peninsula will be built on Moroznaya Mount in Yelizovo district. Construction of a mountain skiing sport school will be finalized at highland ski base Krasnaya Sopka in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Several developed investment projects are already taking effect in Kamchatka. In the future, state authorities plan to launch construction of mountain ski resorts on a local dormant volcano called Sopka Petrovskaya in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, on mountain ridge Topolovy and the Avacha inactive volcano in Yelizovo district.
The association Cluster Montagne is one of Europe's leading companies designing mountain ski centres, developing and delivering mountain skiing equipment including lifts and ski track artificial snow-making systems.
