North Korea informs South Korea about maneuvers with field firing

North Korea has informed South Korea about its intention to carry out military exercises with field firing in the area of the Yellow Sea. Chiefs of Staff Committee of South Korea reported this on Tuesday.
The maneuvers will take place on Tuesday near the so-called northern demarcation line, which actually serves as the sea border between the two Koreas. The notification about the range practice has been sent via fax to the command of the 2nd fleet of South Korean Navy on behalf of South-Western command of the Korean People’s Army. DPRK didn’t inform about the exact time of range practice.

North Korean servicemen previously held range practice in the Yellow Sea March 31. Then, the DPRK military reportedly made over 500 missile salvos. About 100 shells fell in the sea area controlled by Seoul. Residents of South Korean Baengnyeongdo island, which was close to the site of field firing, were evacuated to retreats. In response, South Korean military fired about 300 shots. No injured or damages were reported from any of the sides.

US-South Korea drills
In late March – early April, South Korea held joint drills with the USA, which became the largest in the country’s history. USA was represented by 7,500 marines and 2,000 US Navy sailors. From South Korea, there were 3,500 marines and 1,000 navy sailors. After the drills began, the main North Korean newspaper published an article saying that the US-South Korea maneuvers “aggravate the situation and create a risk of a nuclear war in the Korean Peninsula”.
