Rule of Law and Prosperous Armenia Parties left their deputies free to elect Speaker

 The voting of the Speaker of the Parliament has started. The voting is being held parallel to the session. As reports "Armenpress", some of the MPs of the Prosperous Armenia faction have already participated in the voting. During the sitting of April 28, PAP Secretary Naira Zohrabyan informed that they would reveal their attitude towards the election of the Speaker before the voting. Not long ago Zohrabyan also mentioned that their MPs were free, if they wished, they could vote.

The Rule of Law Party has not made a decision of not participating in the voting, and as the faction member Hovhannes Margaryan mentioned, the faction members will decide themselves whether to participate in the voting or not. The Armenian National Congress, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and the Heritage Party have already stated that they would not participate in the voting, although as a self-nominated candidate from ANC, being a part of the "magnificent quartet", Hrant Bagratyan’s name is also on the ballot-paper.

For the position of the Speaker of the Parliament two candidates compete – the Head of the Republican Party of Armenia faction Galust Sahakyan and Hrant Bagratyan. The Parliament elects its Speaker by a secret ballot. The voting will continue till 13:30.
