Galust Sahakyan – Speaker of Parliament

In the result of a secret ballot held in the Parliament, the Head of the Republican Party of Armenia faction, the Deputy-Chairman of the RPA Galust Sahakyan was elected the Speaker of the Parliament. After summarizing the results of the voting
this was announced by the Chairman of the Counting Commission of the Parliament Sukias Avetisyan. Galust Sahakyan received 101 votes, Hrant Bagratyan – 3. 106 MPs participated in theվ voting, two ballot-papers were declared invalid.
During April 26 sitting of the Supreme Body and the Council of the Republican Party of Armenia it was decided to nominate Galust Sahakyan as a candidate for the Speaker of the Parliament.

During April 28 sitting the Parliament ended the discussion about the issue of the election of the Speaker. For the position of the Speaker of the Parliament Galust Sahakyan from the faction of the Republican Party of Armenia and self-nominated Hrant Bagratyan from the Armenian National Congress were nominated. Ruben Hakobyan, nominated from the Heritage faction, withdrew his candidacy. The Armenian Parliament elected its Speaker by a secret ballot. The Armenian Revolutionary Federation, the Armenian National Congress and the Heritage Party did not participate in the voting (although the ANC faction member Pashinyan participated in the voting and gave his voice to Bagratyan). The Rule of Law Party and the Prosperous Armenia Party let their MPs free in the matter of electing the Speaker of the Parliament.
