Itar-Tass — The elections in Russia are passing without crude violations of public law and order, Itar-Tass learnt at the press centre of the Russian Interior Ministry.
“The elections are passing smoothly. No serious incidents were registered,” said a Tass source.
However, there were minor incidents. For instance unidentified people in a car without a number plate drove to an entertainment centre in the village of Sviritsa, Leningrad Region, on Sunday at 06.00 MT. They tried to enter the centre, smashed windows, and a police officer on duty was forced to shoot into air to stop illegal actions.
Young people escaped, but they were nabbed two hours later. They turned to be residents of the village of Pasha. “The young people were drunk. They explained that they came to the club for a discotheque, but since the house was empty, they smashed the windows,” a local police precinct said.
The rowdies are now giving testimonies, and the question is being settled on instituting a criminal case.
The Interior Ministry noted that 380,000 police officers ensure law and order on Sunday. They are assisted by nearly 30,000 members of volunteer public order squads and more than 30,000 private security officers.
