Council of the EU announces sanctions vs. 11 people over situation in Ukraine

Council of the European Union has announced about the introduction of sanctions against another 11 individuals over the situation in Ukraine's south-east. The press service of the European legislative authority reported this on Friday.
The statement issued by the press service says that this decision has been made "in view of the gravity of the situation in Eastern Ukraine". It is also noted that the list of people, against whom the sanctions have been imposed, will be published in the EU Official Journal and come into effect on Saturday, July 12.

Late on Wednesday, a source in the European authorities reported that ambassadors of the 28 EU member states "agreed to add another 11 people in the sanctions list for Russia and Ukraine" at the regular session of the EU Committee for Permanent Representatives in Brussels.He added that the sanctions "will be imposed by a written regulation of the Council of Ministers before the end of this week". Meanwhile, it does not refer to trade and economic punitive measures, the source says.
"The new edition of the list was complemented mostly with separatist leaders of Ukraine's east," the source informed.
All the people included in the list are banned from entering EU countries until the end of November. Their assets in Europe-based banks, if any, will be frozen, the source specified.
So far, the EU's black list includes 61 people. These are, in particular, Russian politicians, officials, lawmakers and representatives of security services. Aside of them, this list includes several names of supporters of Ukraine's federalization.
Since July 2, the ambassadors of the 28 EU member states are returning to the topic of Ukraine and the necessity of imposing further sanctions at each session of the Committee for Permanent Representatives.
