U.S. concerned over violations in Russian presidential election.
USA
The United States is concerned about the violations in the Russian presidential election spotted by international observers, says U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
In her view, a probe must be launched in the violations. Besides, she is also worried about the arrests of demonstrators in the post-election protests, reports BBC.
However, Clinton points out that the U.S. will collaborate with the current Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who has won the presidential election.
Moscow has in turn showed that it is not particularly interested in Europeans observers’ views on the alleged fraud. Although, foreign media report that independent observers have discovered several hundred irregularities, Russian media say that no significant violations have been registered.
BNN already reported, election results show that Vladimir Putin has been elected Russian president. Thus, he is returning for the third term after spending the last four years as the country’s Prime Minister.
Returns from more than half the polling districts show that Putin has gained over 64%.
His nearest rival from the Communist party – Gennady Zyuganov comes in the second with 18.2%. He is followed by the billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov with 9.6%, Vladimir Zhirinovsky with 7.4% and Sergey Mironov with 4.3% votes, according to Russian media.
