No reports on UK government opposing Russian cross-culture year — Russian embassy

No information is available the British government wants end of cross-culture year with Russia, goes the comment of the Russian Embassy in London released on Monday.
“The Embassy is aware of the position of the UK officials who do not take part in the opening of the activities under the Cross-Culture Year,” goes the statement on the Embassy's official site. “However, we do not have any information that the UK government stands for the termination of the Year of Culture.”
Therefore, all concerts, exhibitions and other cultural events are held in London “at the level of public, which is still highly interested in promoting cultural exchanges between our two countries”.
“In other words, we are essentially talking about cultural and public diplomacy that Embassy supports, considering that it is in the fundamental interests of our two countries,” said the press office.
On July 28, Britain was reported to have ceased support for the cross-culture year. British officials refused to participate in the events, primarily one of the central occasions of the year - the major exhibition in Europe’s history devoted to Soviet and Russian space research and scheduled for the winter in London.
