ICRC: No sense in participation to get Russia's third humanitarian aid convoy ready

The International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) sees no sense in its participation to get the Russian third humanitarian aid convoy ready for sending to residents of Ukraine’s southeast, ICRC spokesperson Anastasia Isyuk told ITAR-TASS on Thursday.
“During our talks on the first and second humanitarian aid convoys, we pointed out that Ukraine and Russia should reach an agreement on all technical issues of the convoy route, including the ICRC’s role as a humanitarian organisation,” Isyuk said specifying that “no final agreements have been reached and the both convoys set off without the ICRC officials.”
“Our staff are working in Lugansk and are ready to provide expert support to local authorities in distributing the aid,” she said. “Besides, we render assistance to medical institutions and are working to get access to persons detained during the conflict.”
Russia has sent two humanitarian aid convoys to Ukraine’s southeast.
The second convoy arrived in the region at the past weekend, carrying over 2,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid. The residents in the crisis-hit region received water purifiers, electric power generators and other humanitarian cargoes.
The 2,000-tonne consignment of first humanitarian aid from Russia reached Lugansk on August 22.
