Russia warns against ‘double standards’ in fighting against terrorism

Moscow stresses that no double standards are acceptable in the fight against terrorism, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement comes following a meeting on Monday between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov and the UN envoy on the Syrian crisis, Staffan de Mistura.
“The sides focused on the fact that there has been a sharp increase in the terrorist activity in Syria and Iraq that poses a serious threat to regional security and stability,” the ministry said in a statement.

“The Russian representatives stressed that the efficient fight against terrorism should be carried out on a complex basis without ‘double standards,’” the statement issued after the meeting reads.
The UN envoy said he plans to hold an intensive dialogue with the parties to the Syrian conflict and global powers, including Russia, in an effort to search for the ways to resolve the crisis in Syria.
At the negotiations, the parties stressed that the crisis in the country can be only resolved through talks between the government and the opposition in the framework of the Geneva Communique of June 30, 2012.
The Geneva Communique calls for the establishment of a transitional governing body exercising full executive powers, which could include members of the government and the opposition, based on mutual consent.
