Armenian Press
The paper says it has learned from sources that Armenia’s second president, Robert Kocharyan, is planning to stand for president next year, becoming a serious contender to the incumbent presidentm Serzh Sargsyan.
The ex-president is not reportedly concealing the fact. Everything will depend on the outcome of the upcoming parliamentary election, particularly the number of the seats the ruling parties - the Republican and Prosperous Armenia – will have in parliament, comments the paper.
Citing its sources, it says further that Kocharyan and Sargsyan presidents do not absolutely maintain any contacts. The presidential office is reportedly concerned over the fact, given particularly that the Republican Party’s candidates’ list contains the names of most different people, including non-members.
“Those who follow the developments in the ruling circles will notice that the authorities are leading a silent battle. This is one of the reasons the presidential administration has taken measures to bring Prosperous Armenia under control,” says the paper.
