Russian arms exporter ready to sell Iskander ballistic missile systems abroad

Russia’s main arms exporter Rosoboronexport is ready to sell Iskander tactical ballistic missile systems abroad once the necessary amount of production has been reached under the state defense order, a specialist from the company designing the Iskander-E export modification told TASS at LAAD 2015 Defense and Security International Exhibition.
"Successful implementation of the state defense order has created conditions for advancing them to the global market," said a representative from Vysokotochnye Kompleksy Holding, which incorporates the Kolomenskoye Mechanical Engineering Design Bureau (KBM) designing the export modification.
He said some countries were eyeing the purchase of the state-of-the-art missile system, and Rosoboronexport currently worked on a commercial proposal from one of them. If the proposal suited the potential buyer, Rosoboronexport would sign a contract, the specialist said.

The managing director and general designer of KBM, Valery Kashin, said that previously when the defense order was quite small, the bureau was making active marketing effort, even preparing a contract through Rosoboronexport to sell Iskander to a foreign buyer. However, the agreement was not signed for political reasons.
Kashin said the company dropped efforts to advance the missile systems to the global market after receiving a long-term contract for the Russian army from the Defense Ministry, for which production had to be increased four-or fivefold.
Potential foreign clients were asked to apply for Iskander deliveries no earlier than 2015, he said.
"Now, as we have reached the necessary level of production, we have renewed efforts together with Rosoboronexport to advance the missile system for exports," he said, adding that they already had proposals.
