The Russian outgoing and incoming Presidents Dmitri Medvedev and Vladimir Putin today participated in a parade dedicated to the Day of Spring and Labor. "After Yeltsin, Russia's Communists and those yearning for the days of the Soviet Union don't recall the last time they saw the country's primary figures respect the traditions of the past," reports Newsru.
There were 14 massive events held in Moscow today, and the first and most massive event was the action organized by pro-government activists. The activists had initially promised to see a turnout of 100,000 people, but that number reached 120,000.
"Peace, Labor, May, Peace to the World, Give Labor"-this were the slogans on the signs held by demonstrators with the flags of the independent trade unions of Russia and the "Yedinaya Rosia" Party led by the two Russian presidents.
Medvedev was the only one expected to participate in the parade. He had initially made an announcement about his participation during a meeting with the party's members on Friday, but to many people's surprise, he was joined by Putin with his dark coat and white shirt.
The demonstrators welcomed their presence. "Let's turn this into a tradition. We like it," the participants screamed in the beginning. Medvedev responded to them on behalf of him and Putin: "We like it, too."
