The man accused of killing Karen Yesayan, the would-be son of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, has not reportedly admitted his guilt.
Speaking to the paper, Harutyun Sargsyan’s lawyer, Lusine Sahakyan, said her client had been detained without any grounds. She complained that the media spread disinformation about Sargsyan, says the paper.
“They are first of all violating the presumption of innocence clause. That’s even more, he is said to have admitted his guilt and showed the place of the weapon, and even agreed to cooperate with the law enforcers to avoid life sentence. As a matter of fact, he does not consider himself guilty. Anyway, the agency in charge of the proceeding ought to have prepared materials documenting its suspicion but it failed to submit any evidence to prove that he has anything to do with the crime,” Sahakyan was quoted as saying.
