It’s not a matter of territories, it’s a matter of self-determination, Karabakh Foreign Minister Karen Mirzoyan said in an interview with CNN asked to comment on Azerbaijani FM’s statement about “occupied territories”.
He said twenty five years ago people of Karabakh voted for independence, and now the current regime is Baku is trying to oppress this people not only by diplomatic, but also first of all by military means, “which is a dangerous development.”
He assured that Karabakh is looking for a diplomatic settlement, for a mechanism that could provide us with a possibility of co-existence in this region.
Asked to comment on Russian FM Sergey Lavrov’s calls to calm the situation, Mirzoyan said Karabakh highly appreciates the efforts of co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, the international community, adding that any unaddressed calls to both parties are received by Azerbaijan not as a sign of concern, not as a sign that it’s time to stop the violence, but as a sign that they could continue their policy.
