"168 Zham": RPA-RLP-Heritage - new coalition?

Immediately after the elections the authorities started discussing what forces should form the ruling coalition and what forces should remain as opposition. Two variants are being discussed - Republican Party of Armenia-Rule of Law-Heritage and RPA-PAP-RLP.

Currently the ruling circles are trying to understand the expediency of having the financially powerful PAP, gaining 36 seats, in the opposition. President Serzh Sargsyan is trying to do everything not to turn the long-lasting tension with the PAP into a conflict. If the RPA fails to form a coalition with the PAP, it will invite the Heritage, though not all in the RPA like this idea. Head of the RPA’s headquarters Hovik Abrahamyan, former chairman of the parliament, together with his associates wants to continue cooperation with the PAP while premier Tigran Sargsyan, with his associates, does not.

The PAP, in its turn, does not want to form a coalition with the RPA in case Tigran Sargsyan remains in the prime minister’s post. According to the paper, discussions have already launched over the distribution of cabinet portfolios. All these issues should be clarified until the first sitting of the National Assembly and resignation of the acting government – till May 24.
