“Haykakan Zhamanak” Daily: Samvel Nikoyan a Regular Deputy

Former Chairman of the National Assembly Samvel Nikoyan will not get a Minister portfolio in the new government and will stay in NA as a regular deputy. This became clear after the yesterday’s sessions of RPA Supreme Body and Council.

Receiving his deputy mandate Nikoyan stated that he may have a post in the new government. “I may be in executive branch, but in what ministry…”-he said, without any further clarifications. Rumors in RPA had it that he may be appointed Minister of Nature Protection, then Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, then that of Urban Development. Anyway, RPA members were sure till yesterday that Nikoyan will become a Minister. Yesterday when it became clear that he will not, the first reaction by everybody was “they let him down.” Yesterday the future government staff was decided at RPA Executive session. It is anticipated that today Serzh Sargsyan will sign appointment decrees.
