“Zhoghovurd”: The Number of Suicide Cases Raises Serious Concerns

Recently the number of suicides in Armenia raises serious concerns. However, it’s difficult to remember a week without at least one suicide case. Official statistics presents a rather upsetting image: according to NSS data, in 2009 the number of suicide or suicide attempts was 498, in 2010 – 592, and in 2011 – 647. As for the 2012 data, there is no any statistics. We were informed from NSS that those data are published every 6 months i.e. rather serious “surprises” are expected in July.
