Flights from the new airport in Stepanakert will be realized within the next few weeks. Artsakh PM Ara Harutunyan recently announced that the technical satiety of the airport is completed and the only reason for the failure of flights is the lack of aircraft. At present the means of acquisition of aircraft already exist. The required money has been donated by Argentine-Armenian businessman Eduardo Eurnekyan.
Dmitri Adbashyan, the head of the civil Aviation of Artsakh State Department, said that over the next few weeks, the airport will receive the first aircraft. Referring the possible obstacles by Azerbaijan, he said. "Azerbaijan has signed an international convention, with which they are obliged not to threaten to the safety of passenger aircraft."
"Artsakh-air navigation" director Norayr Safaryan noted that if Azerbaijan agrees to cooperate, it is possible to allow to realize Nakhichevan-Baku flights over Arthakh.
Dmitri Adbashyan noted that firstly, Yerevan-Stepanakert flights, and to the opposite direction, will be realized, but later the list of flights will be expanded.
If the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs recent announcement is added to all this, that guarantees were received from the sides that no force will be applied against civil aircraft, then we can expect that the airport will finally start to operate.
