“Hraparak”: Qajaran is a Small Syria
Armenian Press
Hraparak reports that on Sepmeber 9 mayor is going to be elected. Nomination began on August 5, but there are no any nominations yet. It’s expected that the current mayor Vardan Gevorgyan is going to be nominated.
Qajaran, political breathing of which is dictated by copper-molybdenum plant, is like a big working collective which looks to the face of one man – director Maksim Hakobyan. They even joke in Qajaran “Our city is a small Syria, and Maksim is Bashar al-Asaad.”
Director of the plant interferes not only with the elections of Qajaran, but also with elections of head of community of Kapan and Goris. In last elections he supported current mayor Artur Atayan, but there were gossips in Syunik, that Maksim Hakobyan this time decided to be passive and it is under question, whether he’ll support the ARP candidate Ashot Harutyunyan or not.
Generally residents of Qajaran treat well their mayor. They say, Vardan Gevorgyan is a guy that fought, is “in good relationship with Maksim”, behaves in a simple way and finds common language with everyone, but he has one disadvantage; he’s a weak guy. “If put between Liska and Maksim, he’ll stay there”, told the young resident of Qajaran.
