RA Participation in Eurasion Union will be Connection, not Membership: Styopa Safaryan

On absence of discussion of Eurasion Union issue at Sargsyan-Putin meetin Lurer.com talked to secretary general of Heritage party, analyst Styopa Safaryan.

-Why there wasn’t official reflection on the issue of Armenia’s possible membership to Eurasian Union?

At Putin-Sargsyan meeting, as they stated, issues of integration to CIS and cooperation of Russia and Armenia have been discussed. Probably by saying integration we should understand Eurasian Union and security of South Caucasus. In an interview with reporters Putin told, that negotiations begin with issue on membership to Tax union. It has been discussed what should be done that Armenia joined and made use of the agreements of Presidents of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia. It refers not to direct or indirect integration of Armenia, but the planned place of Armenia on that orbit.

-If we summarize, what turned out at Putin-Sargsyan meeting in the content sense?

Anyway, Armenia didn’t give any clear answer, and it’s likely no, than – yes. Even if Armenia joins Eurasian Union, this will be just by providing participation in some formats, and nothing more. Armenia has already put that base, beyond which it can’t surpass, as it’ll influence on relations with Europe. Armenia’s participation to Eurasian Union will be connection, not membership.
