Ahar, Varzakan, Mehrab and Heris Cities near Tabriz are Damaged

Today two strong earthquakes stroke Iran's North-West. There are injured as a result of the earthquake, communication ways are damaged, panic is arisen among the population, local media reports.
The wave, that stroke the city of Tabriz, which has 1.5 million population, had 6.2 and 6.0 magnitude intensity, according to the data of Seismic Center of Tehran University of seismic data.
Seismological Service of the United States, reports on 2 strikes of respectively 6.4 and 6.3 magnitudes.
According to the report of Mahmoud Mozafar, the head of the Red Cross Rescue Service of Iran, the communication with the villages is lost, the connection can be maintained only by means of radio communication. There is no information yet about the victims, many injured are moved to local hospitals. Helicopters and rescuers arrive at the scene.
Ahar, Varzkan, Mehrab and Heris cities near Tabriz have been damaged, as well as 6 villages, where, it’s possible, that houses have collapsed.
The earthquake was recorded today, at 16.53 near Tabriz. The second strike followed in 11 minutes. These were followed by 9 strong after-shakes.
In recent period the most destructive earthquake of Iran has been recorded in central city of Bam, in the December of 2003, taking 31000 lives and completely destroying the city.
