According to the data of “Azatutyun” radio station, the former head of traffic police, Margar Ohanyan, who was imprisoned from last year, wrote a pardon petition to President Serzh Sargsyan.
Note, that Ohanyan has been sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment in the May of this year, for misappropriating large amount of gasoline.
The fact that the former head of the traffic police wrote a petition for pardon, as well did not exclude Margar Ohanyan's lawyer Mkrtich Vasakyan, noting that Ohanyan had the right.
“Yes, I do not exclude, that he could’ve written, I haven’t visited him yet. I just haven’t seen Margar Ohanyan for a few weeks. He has probably written a pardon petition, because it’s his exclusive right. The convicted may write a pardon petition without the help of his lawyer or any attorney,” said the lawyer.
In response to the question whether the writing a pardon petition to the President means that Margar Ohanyan accepts his guilt, that when being the head of traffic police he misappropriated large amount of gasoline or not, lawyer Mkrtich Vasakyan said, that already the fact of not protesting the decision of the First Instance Court, proves that the person accepts his guilt.
When asked why Margar Ohanyan proved during the entire trial that he doesn’t have anything to do with the case of misappropriation of gasoline, and moreover, he claimed, that the case had been faked then by police chief Alik Sargsyan, the lawyer said, that Margar Ohanyan said everything in his last speech at the court and he has nothing to add.
To remind you, in his last speech, Ohanyan said that being a person of state mentality he accepts his guilt before the state.
In response to the question, what is the probability that Margar Ohanyan will receive forgiveness after the petition addressed to the country’s President, the lawyer said, that Ohanyan is a person of positive characteristic. Heserved in the police system for 30 years and has been a police colonel. And besides, he has completely compensated the damaged caused to the state as a result of large amount misappropriation, which is, in fact, about half million dollars.
"So, in my opinion, there is no reason not to satisfy the pardon petition,” said the lawyer.
