Hayrikyan on Declaration of Independence

It’s not a secret that the process, which began with adoption of Declaration was dictated by the preliminary drive to be independent from the USSR. Sovereign state consolidation is a matter of following years or maybe centuries. How does the current RA preserve the meaning of the Declaration of Independence i.e. independence from Russia. Lurer.com talked to independent pioneer, NSU President Paruyr Hayrikyan.
“It’s a fact that firstly we became independent from the despotism which is called Soviet Union. But you are independent due to the fact, that you are becoming a subject of international law. Armenia now is an international law subject, no matter how the independence of Armenia is violated through subjective activities and emphasis, this is a result of today’s state agencies’ activity.
It’s important that we are legally independent. It can sometimes refer to de facto independence distortion, which we are currently witnessing, for example with the actions “property for the debt” or with other manifestations. But week state agencies is temporary. What is the most important, that we drew the old horse to the universal carriage and are independent de ure. This is an irreversible reality.”
