Former Abovyan mayor nominated against Gagik Tsarukyan’s son-in-law

Candidate nomination process for September 23 local self-government elections in Kotayk Region was over on August 24. Registration of candidates will be realized on August 24-29.
According to Pastinfo agency, local self-government elections are going to be held in 65 communities out of 67 in Kotayk Region. Also mayor elections will be held in the three city communities: Abovyan, Tsaghkadzor and Yeghvard.
Four candidates have been nominated in Abovyan City: current mayor Karapet Guloyan nominated by PAP, non-party Artashes Mehrabyan and Andranik Petrosyan. Note, that Karapet Guloyan is the son-in-law of PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan, and Karapet Israyelyan is Abovyan’s former mayor.
There have also been nominated four candidates in Tsaghkadzor: Artur Harutyunyan nominated by RPA, Hovik Hakobyan from Heritage party and non-party Armen Tadevosyan and Edgar Hovhannisyan.
Three candidates have been nominated in Yeghvard: current mayor Norayr Sargsyan nominated by RPA and self-nominated non-party Vardan Muradkhanyan, which is Yeghvard City Hall’s staff secretary.
To note, the Head of Community and Council of Elders are elected for four years. According to Electoral Code, any citizen with the Republic of Armenia electoral rights, who has attained the age of 25 years and who has been registered in a particular community or in Yerevan (for those running in Yerevan city districts) for at least the last 6 months, shall have the right to be elected as community leaders. For the Member of the Council of Elders the age should be 21.
