EU persuades state agencies of Armenia and Azerbaijan not to allow any kind of tension in bilateral relations connected with Ramil Safarov’s extradition to Azerbaijan by Hungary. This was announced by vice-president and high representative of the Union for foreign affairs and security policy Catherine Ashton’s representative Mayu Kasianchich, RIA Novosti reports.
“We call to Armneia and Azerbaijan to display restraint in public statements to avoid situation tension,” noted Kasianchich in a meeting with reporters in Brussels. According to her EU is especially concerned with the possible influence and consequences which can be formed in the territory of South Caucasus.
To note, Azerbaijan’s felon officer Ramil Safarov axed Armenia’s MD officer Gurgen Margaryan while sleeping on February 19, 2004. The officers were taking part in English language courses within the framework of NATO’s Peace and Partnership program. Hungary’s court sentenced Safarov to life in prison without the right of pardon at the first 30 years of his sentence. Azerbaijan’s “hero” was awarded the title of Major, an apartment and material compensation.
