Vazgen Sargsyan: we’ll build our house for ourselves (video)
Armenia
“To respect, to appreciate, I respect Levon-Ter-Petrosyan. He is a wise and moral personality-figure.” Vazgen Sargsyan expressed this way about his relations to Levon Ter-Petrosyan on January 29, 1999 at ARP 5th congress.
The Constable noting in his speech that Levon Ter-Petrosyan left presidency taking with him his convictions, added that if Ter-Petrosyan himself decided not to leave, no one could dismiss him.
Talking on his relations with Vano Siradeghyan he stated that Vano is his friend: “Vano is my friend as well as Levon, Robert, Serzh, Samvel, Babken. Together we passed a terrible way. There were some days when the fate of our country was depending on us. We overcame those difficulties and we can’t forget that.”
At the 5th ARP congress Constable announced that he wanted to stay on the position of Minister of Defense: “I don’t want to become a President, I don’t want to become an NA Speaker and I don’t want to became a PM. I want stay in the position of the Minister of Defense. I consider that army is the basis for RA stability and defense. I believe in Armenia’s future I believe in our economical potential, I’m sure we’ll build our house for ourselves together. I’m sure, only in case of reasonable unity, with positive charges we can raise our country. We have stabile, constant values. And on the basis of that stabile field we have a wonderful chance to build our country. This is my conviction, this is the conviction of the Congress and it’s not important who the leader of that Congress will be.”
Interesting, at the same ARP congress more than ten years ago after Vazgen Sargsyan’s speech applauses were heard in the hall, everyone applauded but no one rose. And today is always vice versa, everyone rises, but the applauses are gentle. Now, following the kind communist custom they rise.
Interesting, what has changed during these years and in the mentality of our nation?”
