Call for transparency to Russia: NATO Secretary General

NATO Secretary General Anders Fog Rasmussen, which is currently in Brussels, in an interview with the Georgian public TV noted, that regional security issues are considered “topic for interest and anxiety” for the treaty, ITAR-TASS news agency reports.
“We follow attentively RF “Caucasus 2012” military trainings and call Russia for maximum transparency. We don’t observe or question the right of holding military trainings: we also launch military trainings, at the same time it’s very important to gain trust through transparency and the way of informing military training aims,” Rasmussen noted.
He also said that “NATO calls Russia to follow its obligations assumed by international agreements and respect Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.”
This statement made NATO’s Secretary General before his visit to Georgia on September 6. Within one day he’ll meet with the head of the country, will discuss issues on cooperation with NATO and coming Georgian parliamentary elections on October 1.
