Nikol Pashinyan: enthusiasm is inappropriate

NA MP Nikol Pashinyan, meeting the request of “Haykakan Zhamanak” correspondent, commented on the resolution adopted by the European Parliament and said, that, in regard with this, he does not share the enthusiasm of some people.
Pashinyan said that under the thunderous background of formal condemning emphases the resolution hides clear statements which legalize the happened.
In particular, paragraph “C” of the resolution reads: " whereas immediately after Mr Safarov was transferred to Azerbaijan the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, pardoned him in line with the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Article 12 of the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons.”
And the 3rd paragraph of the resolution reads: “Considers that, while the presidential pardon granted to Mr Safarov complies with the letter of the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons, it runs contrary to the spirit of that international agreement, which was negotiated to allow the transfer of a person convicted on the territory of one state to serve the remainder of his or her sentence on the territory of another state.”
"Thus, the resolution adopted by the European Parliament may be summarized this way: The granting amnesty to Ramil Safarov conforms to the Azerbaijani Constitution and to the letter of Convention on Extradition of Sentenced Persons, but does not correspond to the spirit of the Convention. If anyone can show which highest court accepts the “spirit” of the Convention, and who can make changes to it, and who may legally litigate a verdict not corresponding to the “spirit” of any legal act, I’ll consider, that the enthusiasm of some people after the adoption of this resolution is appropriate. The resolution has recorded, that the release of Ramil Safarov is legal, but not a nice step, especially when he has been made a hero in Azerbaijan,” said Pashinyan and added: “ The elderly usually trick children with such candies. In this case the elderly is the EU and the child is Armenian. As I understand the statements, in Armenia some have wholeheartedly accepted the candy, which is at least amusing. This resolution shows our collapsed foreign policy, on the background of which MFA Edward Nalbandyan’s “high spirited performances” resemble clownada.”
