Today is linguist, literary scholar, philologist, SSR Science Academy Academician Manuk Abeghyan’s 68th anniversary of death.
Manuk Abeghyan is the founder of Armenian new folklore.
He was born on March 17 of 1865 and died on September 25 of 1944.
He has coordinated peoples works of historical epic and lyrical genres, developed the theories of their origin and development.
Abeghyan is also the author of modern spelling of Eastern Armenian.
He wrote a number of scientific papers on Armenian, literature and folklore. He travelled through various Armenian villages, collecting Armenian folk myths, minstrel cantos and songs. He wrote down a number of versions of the Armenian epos.
Manuk Abeghyan was also the first one to study Armenian prosody and is the author of the entire study.
