A Brazilian magazine called "Placar" has caused a controversy by publishing on its October cover an image of Brazilian soccer star Neymarnailed to a crucifix.
According to the magazine, the idea was to defend the Santos player, who has been called a villain because he takes dives, and furthermore provokes his opponents by dribbling too much.
"This report aims to start a discussion about the public lynching that is taking place of Neymar's reputation as a diver/simulator that he has earned," said Mauricio Barros, director of the magazine.
Before the image appeared in Brazil, religious groups expressed their anger.
