Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has admitted the opposition victory in the parliamentary elections by the proportional electoral system, but announced that the ruling party is winning in the areas having one mandate, Ria novosti informs.
"We must learn to work together, despite the intense pre-election campaign," said Saakashvili on "Rustavi-2" TV.
He called the election campaign not only intense, but also "emotional" and "a little dirty". In fact, the head of the state noted that the transfer of authorities to the new parliament should be done in a civilized way.
"I, as president, guarantee that the transfer of authorities to the new parliament must occur without any pain, in the scope of Constitution and democracy,” said Saakashvili.
Today's elections, during which 150 people's deputies to be elected to four-year terms, generate great interest, since after next year's presidential elections, the social and political structure is to be changed in the country, in the result of which the President and the Parliament, especially the PM will acquire rather extended authorities.
