Times: Saakashvili’s greatest gift to Georgia is the acceptance of election results
World Press
The Times considered Saakashvili’s confession of defeat in the elections as a “great victory”.
Comparing the situation of Georgia with other countries, Times brings different examples of how the presidents, reluctant to give up, seek various ways of prolonging their authorities.
Specifically, Times mentions the example of Vladimir Putin, who, in fact, remained in the head of the government, being re-elected as a president. According to the newspaper, in authoritarian countries the authority change usually occurs either in the result of the leader’s death or rebellion.
For some time it seemed that Georgia can go that way too, the article reads. But eh parliamentary elections reset such opinions. So, “ Saakashvili’s greatest gift to Georgia is the acceptance of the elections results,” concludes the author of the article.
