The court hearing into the criminal lawsuit brought against Lieutenant-Colonel Vardan Samvelyan, who had attempted to detonate Armenian capital city Yerevan’s Harsnaqar Restaurant Complex, reconvened Thursday and, subsequently, a ruling was made.
Samvelyan was sentenced to four months in prison and fined AMD 200,000 (approx. $490). The term for the Lieutenant-Colonel’s prison sentence will be calculated as of July 1.
To note, Samvelyan had admitted his guilt at the very first hearing and his legal defender had motioned for a speedy trial. The prosecution, on the other hand, had asked that Samvelyan be sentenced to six months in prison and fined AMD 200,000.
As informed earlier, Samvelyan is charged with illegally acquiring, selling, storing, transporting or carrying weapons, ammunition, explosives or explosive devices.
