Oskanian case is a serious blow to democratic values: US Ambassador to Tsarukyan

Today, on October 10, "Prosperous Armenia" party leader Gagik Tsarukyan met with US Ambassador John Heffern. During the meeting the sides discussed a number of issues related to Armenia’s foreign and domestic policy and economics.
Referring to the issue of depriving RA former Foreign Minister , NA PAP faction MP Vartan Oskanian of immunity, John Heffern stressed, that he is deeply concerned about the incident and attentively follows all the developments. According to the Ambassador, this is a serious blow to the justice and to the democratic values, which is happening especially in the period preceding the presidential elections. At the same time John Heffern hoped that Armenia's authorities will carry out their functions and will ensure the rule of law in resolving this issue.
Gagik Tsarukyan said in his turn, that according to his order the case has been studied by the best lawyers, who confirmed that the accusations against Oskanian are baseless. “During the political session of the party I personally instructed the faction MPs to make strict and principled speeches,” stated Gagik Tsarukyan.
The PAP leader stressed that he is going to be consistent in the impartial investigation of the case and in the objective decision. At the end of the meeting Gagik Tsarukyan invited the Ambassador on a tour around St. Hovhannes church being built in Abovyan. The Ambassador gave a rapturous assessment to the architecture of the spiritual building.
