President Serzh Sargsyan is leaving for Bucharest, Romania later today to attend the European People’s Party’s (EPP) congress and summit.
According to the paper, Mher Shahgeldyan of the Rule of Law party is travelling with the president. As for the party’s leader, Artur Baghdasaryan, he is said to be in Moscow now.
The head of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, Artak Zakaryan is also expected to join the delegation. This is the first EPP congress that sees Armenia’s participation as a full member, says the paper, adding that the country has so far attended the Party’s meetings in the guest status. Citing its sources, the paper claims that everything has been arranged to give a high-level welcome to the president who is reportedly expected to make a speech at the EPP Congress. The main intrigue, according to the paper, is that the Party is to elect a new governing body at the meeting, with Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban reportedly having almost chances of election against the backdrop of the recent scandal related to the Ramil Safarov case.
